Donald "Donnie" Matkovich

Donald “Donnie” Matkovich passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was born on October 22, 1936, in Williamson, Ia., to Albert and Olga Matkovich.

Donnie grew up in Melcher, Ia. He retired from Firestone after 35 years of dedicated service. Donnie loved his dogs - Lucy, Dolly I, and Dolly II. He enjoyed gardening, walleye fishing and cooking. He took great pride in his yard and his landscaping.

Those left behind are his wife of 52 years, Carolyn; his sons, Marty and Tony (Leigh Ann); his grandchildren, Andrew and Molly; his sisters, Mary Ann Crowe and Catherine Roth; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. Family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Hope Ministries, P.O. Box 862, Des Moines, IA 50304-0862 in honor of Donnie Matkovich.
