David E. Chamberlin

David E. Chamberlin, 64, was born May 29, 1948, in Des Moines, the son of Cecil “Gale” and Estalene (Bogue) Chamberlin. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, June 12, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.

After graduating from Drake University with a degree in Music Education, David started his career as a music teacher in Hanibal, Missouri, and Earlham, Iowa. He taught for 38 years in the Des Moines Public Schools, including North, Tech, Harding and Hiatt. David studied organ in college and continued his study with Dr. Frank Jordan for many years. David served as organist for 38 years at Park Avenue Christian Church. David adopted a policy of international travel, completing mission work in Jamaica, and traveling to Japan, South Africa, and Egypt, even taking students from Des Moines Schools on some of these travels. Most recently, David continued to minister thru his music at many senior living centers in the Des Moines area.

David is survived by his mother, Estalene (Bogue) Chamberlin of Des Moines; sister, Linda Chamberlin of Des Moines; brothers, Ric (Susan) Chamberlin of Omaha, Nebraska and Greg (Brian Ohrberg) Chamberlin of Des Moines; nephew, Chris Chamberlin of Omaha, Nebraska; niece, Cari (Ryan) Johnson of Plumas Lake, California; other loving relatives and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil “Gale” Chamberlin; grandparents, Cecil “LaDuke” and Elsie (Smith) Chamberlin, Alfred James and Ethel (Hinkle) Bogue, and Charles Franklin and Dorothy M. (Brown) Stone.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Park Avenue Christian Church, 3219 SW 9th Street, with burial to follow at Berwick Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Park Avenue Christian Church Music Department in loving memory of David.
