Charles Eilbert

Charles Eilbert, 92, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Kansas City Hospice. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, with burial following at Avon Cemetery. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Charles was born December 6, 1919, in Des Moines, to Karl and Grace Eilbert. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Charles enlisted in the US Army. He proudly served his country at the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of Ardennes. He earned the Bronze Star and was personally awarded the Purple Heart from General Patton while recuperating in Paris.

On November 19, 1939, Charles married Susan Sterrett. This union was blessed with three children, Gary, Diane, and Richard. During his younger years, Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing. He collected guns, antiques and later in life enjoyed restoring antique lamps.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Susan; children, Diane Griggs, Gary Eilbert; daughter-in-law, Toni Eilbert; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and brother, Karl Eilbert, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Richard Eilbert, grandson, Gary David Eilbert, and sister, June Hitz.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
