Marie Evelyn Jones

Marie Evelyn (Davis) Jones, 93, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway Funeral Home, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marie was born September 9, 1918 to William and Gladys Davis in Thornburg, IA, the fifth of six daughters. She graduated from North High School in 1935 and attended Drake Night School. She was married to A.C. (Cliff) Jones for 37 years before he died in 1973. Before retiring, Marie worked for the IRS and the U.S. Forest Service. Marie was a member of Northgate OES (of which she was Past Matron in 1973), Mt. Olive White Shrine, Daughters of Nile, and BPOE.

Marie, also known as Jonesie by her family, is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Marie and Neal Fredrickson of West Des Moines; granddaughter Terri Fredrickson of West Des Moines; granddaughter Neala (Jim) Ellingson of West Des Moines; and great grandchildren A.J. Ellingson of Mason City and Ashley Ellingson of West Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Margaret Parker, Blodwin Anderson, Stella Stout, Gladys Boals, and Wilma Caskey.

Memorial contributions may be directed to West Des Moines Christian Church, of which Marie was a member.
