Carol Mease
October 12, 2013
Carol Jean Mease, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Deerfield Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Capitol City Church, 5990 NE 14th Street in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Carol was born on December 21, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Ewald and Elsie (Dieckman) Wiegner. She married Leon Mease on January 1, 1950, and they later moved to Des Moines where they raised three sons. They spent 57 happy years together dancing, golfing, bowling and playing cards. Carol loved cooking for family and friends, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids.
Carol had a tremendous loving concern for all people, and faithfully assisted with church services at a local nursing home. She was the “hands and feet of the Lord” as she ministered to others.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Tim (Kristin) Mease and Randy (Lori) Mease; daughter-in-law, Chris Mease; six grandchildren, Aaron (Jenni) Mease, Chad (Kim) Mease, Sara (Joe) Butters, Lindsay (Kyle) Prendergast, Lauren Mease, and Brooke Mease; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria (Richard) Weers; and her dear friend, Char Dennis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon; and son, Kevin.
The family would like to thank the staff at Deerfield for the tender loving care they have always given Carol. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I'm so sorry to hear about Carol's death. Gloria wrote to me a few days ago to tell me the sad news. I've got some great memories of Carol when we visited together at the family reunions. She was a very special cousin! My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family. May God's word be a comfort to you during this very difficult time. With deepest sympathy, you cousin Rick in Missouri

My heart and prayers are with you during this time of extreme loss. The world has lost an extraordinary woman of faith, love and caring. Carol walked through life selflessly as she touched the lives of her family, friends and even strangers. As a grandmother there is no one on earth who could surpass her protective unconditional love. There is no doubt that everyone will remember her with fondly and with love. For me, taking care of my son when I could not, intimate sharing, motherly advice and care packages that kept coming long after I became the ex-daughter-in-law. It is now time to celebrate her life and live the lessons she taught us all. Avis Corea said it best. Closed eyes, heart not beating, but a living love.
