Dexter Newton Hall, 43, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014. He was born May 3, 1970 to James and Josephine Hall in Brooklyn, New York.
Dexter was a Christian and enjoyed his work. He was an employee of Wells Fargo. Dexter graduated from Adelphi Academy High School and later attended St. Francis University College in Brooklyn. He was a volunteer for many organizations such as Meals of the Heartland, Habitat for Humanity, and tutored inner city kids at New Life in Manhattan. Dexter enjoyed baseball, football, playing cards as well as collecting baseball cards and Marvel Comics. Dexter was known to always give hugs, whether you wanted one or not. He had a huge heart and a laugh you could hear for miles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisabeth; daughter, Mira; parents, James and Josephine Hall; brother, Gareth (Fe) Hall and son, Christian.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
The family is accepting donations on his behalf.

I was thinking about Dexter just the other day and decided to see if I could reconnect. This was an unexpected discovery. Dexter and I attended Adelphi staring in the 6th grade until our graduation. You were an amazing young man.....a gentle giant. I am sad, I will never know the man you became to be. Until we meet again my old friend.

Dexter, I miss you... I don't know why you left us. You always said you felt you loved too much.
I find myself wanting hugs from you. When exciting or humorous things happen at work, I think for a moment, oh I can't wait to get home and tell Dexter. Then I realize that you will not be there. Mira and I are getting along ok. We miss you and chat about your humor and sweetness daily. It helps to get through the emptiness. You are with Jesus now. I remember you telling me that Heaven is our true home, so live in Victory! We are baby...

I am a cousin of Dexter, his father & my mom were sister & brother... Growing up with Dexter during his younger years will always be cherished. Although years have passed & we loss contact with each other I will always remember spending the best times with my uncle Jimmy, Aunt Joe, cousin Gareth & Dexter at their home in Queens.... Dexter i loved you from the very first time I laid eyes on you when you were born & growing up always seeing that smile. I will continue to carry this love till the day we see each other again.... I had the great pleasure to be in the same bible study group as Dexter. He always had a smile on his face and always greeted me with a hug. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and all that knew him during this difficult time. May his memories live on with all that knew him.

Dexter was one to help anyone who needed it and to cheer up anyone who needed it as well. He will truly be missed by everyone. My thoughts go out to all of his family and friends. The world has lost a generous, kind, and loving soul.

I worked at Wells Fargo from 2008-2012 with Dexter and Dexter was one of those people who never let you have a day go by without a smile in it. Even the worst days where you wanted to scream and yell at someone, he had some saying or something humerous that would brighten your day. He was a very warm hearted, trusting man that any one could just go up to and tell anything to and he would listen.. He would always lend his ear. I will miss those hugs.and laugh. because his laugh was very distinct. . and his "How ya doin?" i can still hear it exactly the way he said it. You will be missed Dexter...

I had the great privilege of knowing Dexter. We worked together for many years. He was a wonderful man and loved by all. Dexter always brought a smile to my face and I could always expect a "fist pound" with a huge smile whenever we walked by each other. He couldn't have been a better man. He will be greatly missed by all.

My condolences to Dexters family. I hope you all know how much he was loved by everyone. I mean EVERYONE! His heart was bigger than his body. I feel like God lost a soldier. Hopefully, God sends more just like Dexter cuz the world needs more Dexters! I am so glad I had the privilege of calling him a brother, even if for a short time!
