Doris Japhet

Doris Mildred (Welch) Japhet was born October 13, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Leona (Hartman) Welch. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Order of the White Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, and active in Rainbow Girls. Doris was a Band Booster at East High School and ran concessions at East, Drake University, and the Iowa State Fairgrounds. She enjoyed ceramics, reading, jumble puzzles, and word searches. Doris liked to travel and watch Wheel of Fortune and Dancing with the Stars. She was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed cheering on the Cardinals and the Hawkeyes. Doris was employed as a clerical worker for Drake University prior to her retirement.

Doris passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at UnityPoint Health Taylor House surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Kim Japhet, Kristi Japhet (Darin Rutherford); four grandchildren: Kristine, Brenna, MiKayla, and Andrew; great-granddaughter, Ariana; sister, Wilma Fergus; and brother, Jack Welch.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 59 years, John.

Services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Staves United Methodist Church, 2747 E Madison Avenue. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. with funeral service following immediately at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Masonic Cemetery after the funeral.

It is suggested that memorial contributions be directed to Staves United Methodist Church or Taylor House Hospice in Doris’s memory.
