Shellby Kay Dowie, 28, was born January 2, 1986 in Des Moines, the daughter of Myrna Head and Jeffrey Dowie. She passed away April 20, 2014, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Shellby enjoyed making crafts, painting, and spending time with her dogs Stewie, Theo, Harley, and her bird, Sampson.
Shellby is survived by her mother and stepfather, Myrna and Bruce Head; brother, Jonathan (Jesse Johnson); grandparents, Mariam Todd, Bill Kendall, Fred and Sandra Dowie; aunts and uncles, Barbra (David) Graham, Marie (Billy) Burr, Darrell (Debbie) Hoefling, Mike Todd, Bill (Dee) Todd, Sherri (Fred) Hartman, Susie (Rod) Waller, Brent (Mary) Hoefling, Jerry (Amanda) Todd, Mikey Carlisle, Mark Todd, Robert Todd II, Fred (Julieann) Dowie, Lisa Dowie, and Jeff Reeser; stepmother, Linda Morris-Dowie; as well as numerous cousins and special friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Jeff Dowie; brother, Gabriel William; sister, Angelica Lynn; her grandmother, Kay Kendall; grandfather, Robert Todd; her aunts, Lori Reeser and Cherie Carlisle.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to begin at 3 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Shellby.

I am so sorry for your loss and that shellby is gone. Even though we hadn't spoken in some time it was still very hard for me to hear about what happened. I wanted to come and pay my respects but wasn't able to get the time off of work; I just wanted you to know that shellby and your entire family have been on my mind ever since I heard the news. I will always have amazing memories of the time we spent together and I will forever keep her and your entire family in my prayers.

To Shelby's family, my dearest condolences goes out to her family. I met Shelby about two years ago at Nationwide, she worked with my high school friend Jessica. Her laugh kept me smiling the whole time we talked. She worked underneath me on the third floor soon after I met her and I seen her almost everyday. So sad to see a young beautiful young lady gone so soon.

My daughter Cassie and Damian York are friends of Jonathan and Jesse. I had the pleasure of meeting Jon last year, he is a very nice young man. I lost my brother in a car accident many years ago and there are no words, just thoughts and prayers to give you strength and courage to go on. Shellby will forever be in your heart and while her physical presence is no longer here, her Spirit will be with you always. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Myrna and Jonathan, we are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Shellby. We are so sorry for your loss. We will never forget the little 11 year old who showed up at our door with a flyer offering to babysit! So cute and such a hard worker. The girls loved her and she was our only babysitter for a number of years until Walgreen's stole her away! She will be missed. Our thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing your child goes against the natural order of things. I am sure Shelby is at peace and please try to remember the good times you had with her. She most certainly shared many funny and sweet stories about growing up with our family during the years she was a part of our lives.
