Larry Sammons

Larry Sammons, 68, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014.

Larry was born January 12, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa. He worked as a custodian for the Olathe, KS school district for over 30 years before retiring in 2000 and wintered in Texas until 2013. Larry was a member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life – going out to eat, catching old funny reruns, and spending time with his family. Saturdays were especially enjoyable as old westerns were on television, but he was even happier when he could watch sports. Larry and his family enjoyed traveling together and made memories on many trips and cruises.

Larry is survived by his loving sister, Diana Kay (Don) Murphy; nephew, Mark (Meredith) Murphy and their daughter, Kailin; nephew, Scott (Jennifer) Murphy and their children, Rylyn and Charlie; and many dear cousins and friends.

He is welcomed home to heaven by his parents, Walter and Margaret Sammons; and sister, Virginia Sammons.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 25, also at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
