Barbara Tate

Barbara Jean Elizabeth Tate, 83, of Des Moines, IA, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 with her daughter by her side.

She was born on January 25, 1931 in Des Moines, IA to Nellie Brown and James Brown, Sr.

Barbara was a graduate of East High School, and continued her education at Grandview College, Drake University, and Broadlawns School of Nursing in 1954. She retired as a registered nurse in 1990.

She enjoyed reading the Bible, devotional books, and sharing her faith. She used to enjoy fishing, and occasional walks with her daughter around Gray’s lake.

Barbara was welcomed home to heaven by her sister, Hortense Gray, daughter, Melody Tate, and granddaughter Andrea Hope Tate.

She is survived by her sisters, Dolores Morten, Charlotte Humphrey, and brother, James Brown, Jr. Daughters, Valerie Mikell, and Lezlie Tate. Grandaughters, Clarissa Mikell and Rachel Mikell. Great grandchildren, Jarrod, Peyton, Victoria, Antonio, Jaylen, Theodore, and Jeremiah. Nieces and nephews, Marline Humphrey, Christopher Humphrey, Cheryl Humphrey, Mark Humphrey, Stacy Forbush, and Lisa Humphrey.

At Barbara’s request, there will be no viewing, visitation or service held.
