Service Details
Betty Jean Shivers, 87, of Bondurant went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16th at Ankeny First Church of Christ, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Rising Sun Cemetery.
Betty was born in Des Moines and lived on a farm with her husband in Bondurant most of her life. She resided at Sunny View Nursing Home in Ankeny after suffering a stroke in the fall of 2013. She was retired from Hulsizers in Ankeny. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and Grandma “Great.”
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Wayne Shivers. Survivors include her children, Gary (Mary) of Bettendorf, Ron (Bev) of Altoona, Cindy (Stan) Smelser of Bondurant, and Neal (Carol) of Bondurant; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ginny (Al) Nellor and Lucile Haines; sister-in-law, Evelyn Shivers; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 15th at Ankeny First Church of Christ, 310 NW Ash Drive.
In Betty’s honor, memorial contributions can be made to her church.

My sympathies to all the Shivers' family and especially to Neal and Carol for your loss of your Mom. We know all things work together for good...but it sure makes life on this earth a little colder without one's mom around.

We love you Gary & Mary, Ron & Bev, Cindy & Stan, Neal & Carol and all the kids! It seems so odd that we can ache and mourn but rejoice at the same time. Such a wonderful Mom, Aunt and friend. We will miss her--looking forward to laughing with her in heaven!
