Iris Joy Owens

Iris Joy (Shelton) Owens was born March 7, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence D. and Marian (Titus) Shelton. She passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the age of 77. Joy was a loving mother and grandmother. She adored her family and will be forever missed by each of them.

Joy is survived by her children, Rick (Cindy) Owens of Pleasantville, Vickie (Mitch) Hosler of Urbandale, and Karen (Harry) Kramer of Des Moines; siblings: David Shelton, James Shelton, Jerry Shelton, Norma Van Gorp, and Mary Lou Tartar; eleven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Owens; son, Dan Owens; and siblings: Iva May Shelton, Don, Richard, Carl, Howard and Robert Shelton, and Betty Smith.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, also at the funeral home, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
