James Hufnagel

James “Jim” Hufnagel, 73, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014. He was born June 6, 1941 to Andrew and Kathleen Hufnagel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

James was very proud to have become an Eagle Scout at the age of 15. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh where he did his undergraduate studies in Journalism then earned his master’s degree from Columbia University in New York. James was a reporter for the Pittsburgh paper as well as a publishing writer for Apartment Living and Better Homes and Gardens. He was a prolific reader and enjoyed solving word puzzles.

He is survived by his loving sister, Kathie (Ron) of Casco, ME, dear friend, Melissa Fears of Des Moines, IA, nieces, Joanne (Mark) Cover, and Susan Spofford; six grandnieces and nephews; and many great friends he had met throughout his life.
James was preceded in death by his nephew, Stephen Hawkes.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m., at Noah’s Ark Restaurant & Lounge, 2400 Ingersoll Avenue in Des Moines.
