Robert E. Davis, 80, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at his home in Perry, Iowa. He was born on October 5, 1933 in Independence, KS to Clarence and Jessie (Mustain) Davis. Robert was married to the love of his life Barbara for 57 ½ years.

Robert graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1952 and worked at Johnson Machine Works as a structural estimator from 1961 until 1997. He was a member of the NRA, Rifle Club of Des Moines East High, National Rifle Club of Iowa where he won many awards, Greater Iowa Aquarium Association, and was a Mason. Robert also served as a softball coach and umpire for the East Des Moines Girls Softball League and enjoyed his cat, Rusty, cooking, and baking. He entered many cooking and baking contests at the Iowa State Fair and won over 128 ribbons between 1976 and 1982. At age 14, he was denied prizes because of a “women only rule.” Robert was a camp counselor at a boys camp, served as a life guard, and enjoyed entomology and photography.

He is survived by his children, Kathy Brauer (Jim), Karol Easter, Greg Davis (Alice), Karen Shields (Scott) and Kim Taylor (Mark); 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (and 2 on the way); and brother, David of Kansas City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents; and son-in-law, John Easter, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines with a visitation on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 6 – 8 pm also at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
