Tommie "Peewee" McMurray, Jr.

Tommie McMurray, Jr., 73, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014. He was born July 25, 1941 to Tommie, Sr. and Julia McMurray in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards and Dominoes, watching old western movies, and listening to 70’s music. Above all else he loved spending time with his family. His smile could light up any room and bring such joy to many hearts. He was also known as “Peewee” by many. Tommie was such a kind person with a heart of gold.

Those left behind to cherish his memory, are his loving wife, Velma; children, Thomas McMurray, Alicia Smith, Damita (Kevin) Manning; grandchildren, Ontario, LaKeisha, Aaron, Quentien, Marlin, Janeisha, Robert, Andrea, Cassie, Destany, Damitra, and Kevonna; 20 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; brothers, Herbert Greasham, Hershall Greasham, and Clifford McMurray; and a host of beloved friends.

Tommie was preceded in death by his infant daughter; step-daughter, Cassandra Taylor; granddaughters, Latasha Wineland, and Deondra Moulds; parents, Tommie Sr. and Julia McMurray; step-father, L.P. Greasham; brother, Lindsey Pettis; sister, Helen; and his grandparents and great-grandparents.

Memorial Visitation will be held, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines.
