Walter Lee Pennington

Walter Lee Pennington, of Des Moines, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Wesley Acres Care Center with his loving family beside him. Walter was born on June 27, 1926 in Indianola to Fred and Beulah (Trotter) Pennington.

Walter lived in Des Moines his entire life. After receiving permission from his parents at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WW II. Following his service, he returned to Des Moines and graduated from North High School. He married Carolyn D. Howard and together they were blessed with a son, Gary. Walter retired after 42 years of loyal, dedicated service from Meredith Corporation as a pressman.

Walter is survived by his son, Gary (Mary) Pennington; two grandchildren, Ryan and Adam Pennington; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Alexzander, and Adam Michael Pennington; and other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. He will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
