Paul “Dwaine” Miner, 84, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was called home on September 14, 2014, from heart failure, surrounded by his four girls at home. Dwaine was born to Paul and Geraldine (Towne) Miner on June 18, 1930, in Runnells, IA.

The family moved to Des Moines in the 40’s and he graduated from Des Moines Tech High in 1948. He proudly entered the US Navy and served three split years aboard the USS Boxer and USS Juneau. Dwaine was a driver for Western Transportation for many years, and later owned and operated a pallet company for 25 years, retiring in 1992.

Dwaine is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Bonna Dee (Lenox) Miner; his daughter, Catherine (Steve) Jensen; granddaughter, Christina (Eric) Boeckman and their children, Jim, Taylor, and Avery; granddaughter, Amanda (Scott) Savage and their children, Natalie and Rocky; brother-in-law, Kenneth Lenox of Pahrump, NV; and three brothers, Darrell, Dean, and Dennis (Shirley) Miner of Ankeny; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jim Miner; sister, Dorothy Draper; brother, Dale Miner; parents-in-law, Marie and Berle Lenox; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Lenox Monk.

Dwaine was a friend to all he met, and was a loving and devoted family man. His every thought was for the good and happiness of his family. He will be so greatly missed.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions be directed in his name to the donor’s choice, Pleasant Hill Fire/Rescue Department, Pleasant Hill Library, or to Mercy Hospice House – 1055 6th Avenue Suite 200, Des Moines, IA 50314 - who so graciously made all our lives more comfortable in Dwaine’s last days.
