E. Coleen Ruperto, 81, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014.

She was born January 26, 1933 in Unionville, Missouri to Wade and Olive Johnson. Coleen started her career in the insurance industry in Nashville, Tennessee where she worked at National Life and Accident Insurance Company (Home of the Grand Ole Opry), where she had many friends and connections with the country music industry. Her career later moved her to Des Moines where she met Charlie Ruperto at a dance at the Val Air Ballroom and they were married on September 24, 1966. Coleen, along with her husband, were active members of the Fairview Congregational Christian Church in Stuart. She was also an avid member of the Christian Women’s Association and Southside Quilter’s Club. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandsons and scrapbooking.

Coleen is survived by her children, Charlie (Melinda) Ruperto and Anna (Dana) Schrader; grandchildren, Anthony and Jacob Ruperto; sisters, Betty (Elmer) Gonzales and Sarah (Ed) Schyska; in-laws, Anna (Roger) Williams and Vickie (Darwin) Halfwassen; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles Ruperto; her parents, brother, Webster Johnson and sisters, Margaret Dooley and Twylia Campagna.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
