Nadine Suddeth
November 21, 2014
Nadine (Schartner) Suddeth was born in her family home on August 8, 1927 to Lawrence and Harriett Cronin. She was a proud 1945 graduate of East High School. In 1946 she married Ken Schartner and born to them was Janice and Mark. A few years after Ken's death in 1969, she married Wendell Suddeth. Nadine treasured her friends and neighbors and was dedicated to her family. During her life, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone and as a nurse’s aide at Valley View Village, but mostly spent her life as a loving homemaker. She enjoyed volunteering at her children's schools, Iowa Methodist Hospital, Sunny View Nursing Home, and her church. Nadine loved music and for many years, was a faithful member of her church choir and The Des Moines Senior Singers. Nadine embraced life and was always ready for an adventure.
Nadine is survived by daughter, Jan (Ray); and her son, Mark (Peggi); their children, Jennifer (Paul), Kate (Jonathan), Erik (Cerissa) and Lukas (Jenny); step-son, Gary (Vicki); their daughter, Molly (Josh); step-daughter, Gail; and step-daughter-in-law, Sharon; and her children, Megan and Dillon; eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Emma, Elena, Kira, Bennett, Matthew, Jacob and Jax; her brother, Lawrence; brother-in-law, Dale; and many nieces, nephews and loving members of Wendell's family. She was preceded in death by Wendell; her sister, Mercedes; and step-son, Greg.
A celebration of Nadine's life will be held at Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Ave. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. A visitation will be held beginning at 9 a.m Thursday at the church. A luncheon will follow at the church for friends and family after a short graveside gathering at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Her death on Friday, November 21, 2014 ended her earthly life but began her life in heaven with her Saviour Jesus Christ. Her faith in her Lord was what strengthened and sustained her throughout her life.
Nadine's last two years of life were spent in Madison, Wisconsin near her children. Our family would like to thank Mom's friends at Westchester Church, Senior Singers, Senior Helpers, the staff at Valley View Village, neighbors and family members for all of their loving-kindness and assistance while Mom still lived in Des Moines. Also, our gratitude to friends at Blackhawk Church in Madison, for making Nadine feel right at home, for Hospice and their care and to Karin and Rick Krause and their devoted staff at Hope and A Future Adult Family Home.

Dear Jan Mark and family--- Special people touch our lives in everything they do and leave us changed long after they have gone. The gifts they gave us can become a part of who we are- a legacy of beauty that lives on. Nadine your sweet Mom is one of those people to me. She was such a great counselor during high school days and taking us to Trinity College to introduce us to higher Christian Ed which I was so blessed to experience. She was always there for me - especially as deaconess she helped me let go of my Wonderful Mom Myrt to heaven - she was so encouraging to be there with me when Mom left this world in 1997- Thanks for sharing your excellent Mom with all of us who knew and loved her. In His Loving Embrace, Betty
