Harriette Arlene Meyers

Harriette Arlene Meyers, 92, passed away on Saturday, November 22nd, 2014 at Fountain West Health Center in West Des Moines. Harriette was born August 10, 1922 in Minden, Nebraska, the daughter of Andrew and Anna Nelson. February 23rd, 1946 she married Mark Wayne and they resided in Lincoln, NE. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Gary and Mark. In 1953, the family moved to Des Moines, where they would call home. Harriette worked for Bakers Cafeteria in Urbandale for 18 years until retirement.

Harriette loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spoiling them with her delicious baked goods. Her grandchildren looked forward to the annual Christmas cookie baking and decorating party she hosted for them each year. She also enjoyed crocheting, traveling to Las Vegas and Carnival cruises with friends. Many were envious of her green thumb in the garden and enjoyed the canned goods she produced. A Nebraska native through and through, she always cheered for the Cornhuskers.

Harriette will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jan Meyers, daughter-in-law Margaret Meyers; grandchildren, Joe (CJ) Meyers, Jeff (Tabitha) Meyers, Lori (Ryan) Martin, Jenny (Brian) Wise and Kim Meyers; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Charlie, Molly, Camron, Hailey, Kenlee and Ashlyn. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Erma Nelson, husband Mark Wayne, and son Mark.

Visitation will be held at 9:00am on Wednesday, November 26th at Hamilton’s Funeral Home near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am, also at Hamilton’s. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln, NE on December 1, 2014.
