Violet Maxine Bengtson went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Born on November 3, 1921 in Youngstown, Iowa, a small, rural community just east of Des Moines, she was the youngest of nine children born to Nellie and Fred Hirschman. Violet graduated from North High School in June of 1938, was married to Edward Bengtson on July 3, 1939 and became a believer in Jesus Christ in 1940. She was a long time member of Grandview Park Baptist Church, a woman of faith, a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was employed by the State of Iowa as a clerical worker before retiring in 1980. Through the years, besides serving in her church, her life was wrapped up in all that concerned her children and their families.

Violet moved to Iowa Falls in 1997. She attended Steamboat Rock Baptist Church and created many memories with family, friends and caregivers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1999. She is survived by daughters Janet (Gary) Falk, Murrieta, CA and Karen (Martin) Leach, Castro Valley, CA, and son Gale (Kathy) Bengtson, Iowa Falls, IA, eight grandchildren: Andrew (Amy) Falk, Alexandria, VA; Peter (Krista) Falk, San Diego, CA; Holly (Todd) Occhipinti, Redding, CA; April (Tony) Forward, Redding, CA; Jamie Rogers (Jose Ramirez) San Francisco, CA; Wendy (Troy) Hemme, Minneapolis, MN; Jonathan (Kelsey) Bengtson, Minneapolis, MN; Jared Bengtson, Iowa Falls, IA and seventeen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-8:30 pm Friday, January 2 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday, January 3 at Grandview Park Baptist Church, E 33rd Street with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be given to Grandview Park Baptist Church, North Iowa Hospice, or Barlow Memorial Library in Iowa Falls.
