Mary L. Grabill, 55, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Mary was born to Tony and Rose Riesberg of Carroll, IA on August 5, 1959.

Mary was a graduate of Carroll Kuemper High School in 1977. She moved to Des Moines where she worked for Ardans, Greyhound, and then Tone’s Spices in Ankeny where she worked for 24 years.

On August 2, 1986, Oscar and Mary, along with his children, were united in marriage and completed their family. She will be missed by many.

Mary and her husband were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans and loved to watch baseball, football, and basketball.

Survivors include her loving husband of 29 years, Oscar Grabill of Des Moines; children, Linda (Larry) Alexander of Redfield, Tom (Missy) Grabill of Adel, and Kathy Grabill-Davis of Adel; mother, Rose Riesberg of Carroll; sisters, Sandy Riesberg of Des Moines, Jeanette Liddicoat of Phoenix, AZ, Judi (John) Gunderson of Woodward, and Carol (Ken) Stubbe of Glidden; sisters-in-law, Kathy Venner of Arcadia, Freda (Gary) Hadley of Indianola, Vera (Bob) Pruitt of Redfield, and Virginia Herger of Santa Rose, CA; brothers-in-law, Richard (Charlene) Grabill of Bethany, MO, Bill Grabill of Colorado Springs, Harvey (Linda) Grabill of Minburn, and Cecil (Myrna) Grabill of Tacoma, WA; her loving dogs, Buddy and Bo; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; brothers, Larry, Dan, and Mark Riesberg; son, Jerry Grabill; great-granddaughter, Abbigail Reed; and her loving dogs, Bandit and Pepper.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
