Carol Jean Bailey, 68, was born January 8, 1947 to Wayne and Macil Hedlund in Indianola. She went to be with her Savior at her home on Wednesday February 18, 2015.
Carol graduated from Bondurant High School and was a long time active member of Santiago United Methodist Church. She played softball, volleyball, and basketball for many years in various leagues in the Mitchellville and Mingo area. Carol enjoyed shopping, especially for other people, working in her flower garden, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Carol’s greatest joy came from Grandma’s Day, spending every Sunday cooking a feast for her family and enjoying the day together.
Carol is survived by her husband of 50 years, Daniel; sons, Ron (Melissa) and Larry (Amy); grandchildren, Danielle, Drake, Kelly, Macy, and Holly; brothers, Murvin Jackson and Don (Edna) Hedlund; best friend, Pat (Larry) Bistline; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2015 at Santiago United Methodist Church, 8050 NE 109th Street, with burial to follow at Franklin Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Santiago United Methodist Church in loving memory of Carol.

Dan and Family: Although I did not personally know Carol Jean, I know it is hard to loose someone truly close to you for that amount of time. The memories of her will always be with you though. My sincere condolences to all of you.

Just as God knows the name of each star(Psalms 147:4) he knows what we are going through and comforts us during difficult times such as these.(James 4:8) He will soon swallow death forever(Isaiah 25:8) and those in memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. (John 5:28,29) Jehovah God promises to resurrect or bring our loved ones back to life here on earth. This breaks my heart. I loved her and will miss her. But then who didn't love Carol Jean? She is with Aunt Eloise and her mama, all of them are wonderful, strong women. My condolences to Danny, Murvin, Donnie, and all of the family. You are in my prayers
