Shirley Jean Staley

Shirley Jean (Gardner) Staley was born August 6, 1928 in Fairfield, Iowa to Jesse and Olga (Schooley) Gardner. She was a resident of the Des Moines area most of her life. She was an East High School alumni. She worked for Bell Telephone Company and for the Polk County Juvenile Home. Shirley married C. Rex Staley and together they raised five children. She was an avid reader and took great pleasure in being a mother and a homemaker.
Shirley passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at the age of 86. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Shirley is survived by her children, Al (Teri) Fenton, Marvanna (Mike) Rodgers, Sue (Rick) Dennis and Tim (Christie) Staley; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her sister, AnnaBelle Sandin
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex; daughter, Becky; and grandson, Brad.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Park Ridge Specialty Care to help finance volunteer work.

Shirley was an extraordinary woman. I have so many fond memories of spending time in her home growing up.
