Jay Flatt

Jay Flatt, 74, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife and son Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center after a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure.

Jay was born March 12, 1940 in Des Moines to Irvin and Marie Flatt. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. Jay founded Flatt Tire Center in 1969 and retired in 2001. He enjoyed working in his yard, mowing and golfing. Jay’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren and family.

Jay is survived by his wife of 51 years, Penny; son, Jordy (Michelle) Flatt; grandchildren, Aubrey, Harper, Oliver and Daphne (on the way); brother-in-law, Bob (Grace) Squaires; sister-in-law, Deborah Hartman; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim, Jean Marie, Jerry, Jack, Joan, Janet, Joe and Jeorge; and his brother-in-law, Johnny Hartman.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The funeral service will be held Friday at 12 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orillia, Iowa.
