Howard “Poppy” W. Renaud, 88, passed away Tuesday February 24, 2015, at his home in Bondurant. He was born June 4, 1926 to Harry and Berniece (Light) Renaud in Bondurant.
Howard graduated from Bondurant High School in 1944 and then served in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific. In 1948, he married Sally Thiel and worked on the family farm. Once his family began to grow, he was a truck driver for Briggs Transportation where he retired from after many years of service.
Howard enjoyed raising exotic fowl including pheasants and peacocks. His grandson, Josh, is carrying on this tradition. Howard also enjoyed reading, cracking walnuts, visiting with friends, and working.
Howard was a member of the Bondurant American Legion Post 396. He felt privileged to have been on the Casey’s Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and was proud to be a part of America’s Greatest Generation. Howard was a lifetime Mason and a member of the Za Ga Zig Shrine. He was also a lifetime member of Bondurant Christian Church.
His greatest passion was always his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Howard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sally; children, Sally (Jerry) Friedmeyer and Kevin (Zanetta) Renaud; grandchildren Jeri Lynn Butler, Josh (London) Friedmeyer, Andy Friedmeyer, Jakob Friedmeyer, Melissa (Trevor) Perry, Dustin Renaud, Brandon Renaud, Jason Renaud, and Amanda Renaud; great-grandchildren, Hope, Brooke, Kaylie, Justice, Brindlee, Haylee, Kaiden, Dominic, Caylee, Colton, Madison, and Cody; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Lynne Annette Renaud and Howard Michael Renaud; sister, Virginia Torgersen; and brother, Dale (Pat) Renaud.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Bondurant Christian Church, 304 Grant Street South in Bondurant. A private burial of cremains will occur at a later date at the Bondurant Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bondurant Christian Church or Bondurant American Legion Post 396 in loving memory of Howard.

Sally: Just want to express our sympathy. So sorry. We really enjoyed having lunch and meeting Howard at the grocery store in Bondurant last Sept. I hope Avanell was able to be there today. She wanted to so much. Hope we see you again. I am glad you have family close. Take care.

When Dad was going through a difficult back surgery in 1962 and unable to work- one family will always be remembered in our thoughts-Howard and Sally Renaud. The gifts of fresh meat and vegetables were very much appreciated by all of us. Howard and Sally sold a 1956 Pontiac to Dad if I remember correctly for a token $100.00 so he would have transportation to work. It was the best buy ever as that Pontiac lasted for years and was used to teach Steve and I how to drive. The Pontiac was driven through our driveways picket fence twice by me until I learned how to handle it and or Dad decided my driving lessons were over. As I mentioned to my brothers and sister, I know that today there are two old friends reminiscing and making others laugh as was their specialty. God Bless

When I think of Dad and Howard I think of all the fun they had together and the stories they told on each other. I still laugh when I think of those stories and I always will. God bless my two favorite world war 2 heroes.

Howard was my dad's (Kelly Howell) best friend. I could not have picked a better friend for my wonderful dad. Having experienced untold tragedies during World War II together, they had a bond that could not be broken. Howard and Sally were always there for my parents. Rather it was showing up with groceries when times were tough or introducing my parents to caring for pheasants, guineas or peacocks, Howard's gentle spirit was always evident. Just a few weeks ago my brothers and I were talking about how we needed to go thank Howard and Sally for all they had done for our family. So now..... to Sally and the family....thank-you for sharing such a wonderful man with our family.

The stories that I have heard over the years about Howard and the Lake Club make me smile. I imagine him laughing and reminiscing with the Lake Club families who are now together. Memories: the greatest gift we can receive!
