LaVerne G. Ogren was born May 19, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Clifford E. and Edna (Johnson) Ogren. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School and was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. LaVerne was an U.S. Army veteran, proudly serving during WWII in the 98th Infantry Recon and Intelligence. He was a truck driver and a member of Teamsters, Local 147. He was a longtime active member of Bloomfield U.M.C. where he sang in the choir since his return from WWII until age 92. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed participating in many different sports.

LaVerne passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 age 92. He is survived by his nieces, Nancy Kieler and Harriet Ogren; nephews, Gary Ogren, Lynn Ogren and Wayne Ogren; as well as several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee Ogren, Harold Ogren and Gerald Ogren; sister, Helen Ogren; nephews, Lee Ogren, Jr. and William Kieler; and longtime friends, Lorraine Compton and Rev. Walter Beck.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., with funeral service to begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2015 at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Ave, Des Moines, IA 50320. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to Bloomfield U.M.C.
