Dwight Pierce

Dwight Pierce, 64, passed away March 3, 2015, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born to Alice and Melvin Pierce Sr. in Des Moines on August 23, 1950.

Dwight grew up in Colfax, IA. He married Georgia Holdefer on June 27, 1969, and they were blessed with four sons. Dwight worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for more than 20 years.

He enjoyed being outdoors and tinkering around the garage in his spare time. Dwight had a passion for working on cars, and found joy in attending car shows and drag races. Above all, he valued his family and the time spent with them at his grandchildren’s sporting events, activities and games. He also cherished the family’s annual trip to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Georgia; sons, Chris Pierce, Jason (Alesa) Pierce, Danny Pierce, and Brandon (Desirae) Pierce; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Judd, Olivia, Dakota, Samantha, Lucy, and Hailey; his siblings, Melvin (Karen) Pierce Jr., Don (Linda) Pierce, Larry (Marjorie) Pierce, Greg (Tonia) Pierce, Skylar Pierce, Larry (Brenda) Botts, Lisa Sams, and Bob (Margaret) Cooper; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Marvin and Kenneth Pierce.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Howard Street Christian Church, 101 N. Locust Street in Colfax, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
