Patsy B. Hogan-Cassady
March 05, 2015
Patsy B. Hogan-Cassady, of Des Moines, Iowa, died in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the age of 84, after a long battle with lung disease. Born in Lisle, Illinois on July 25, 1930, to Marjorie and Wilbert Lauing, Patsy was the middle of five children. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers Laurie and Dellis Lauing and grandsons Mattie Newman and David Hogan.
She was a member for many years of the St. Helena's mother's club at the St. Augustin's church and the Bellizzi MacRae American Legion, both of Des Moines, Iowa. A coffee lover and avid gardener, Patsy also loved to travel and read. She was an energetic soul who was able to out-work those many years younger than her during her twenty years of service at the downtown Des Moines Younkers. After retirement, she and her husband moved to rural Robertsdale, Alabama where Patsy enjoyed an active social life and made many dear friends. After returning to Des Moines, she enjoyed visiting with others and painting ceramics at the Pioneer Columbus Senior Citizen's Center in Southeast Des Moines.
Patsy's greatest joy in life was her family. While taking square dance lessons in 1984 she met the love of her life, Arnold Cassady. They were wed in 1988 and enjoyed over twenty-five wonderful years of marriage.
She was the biological mother to nine children, all of whom survive her - Dave (Lana) Hogan, Jim (Kelly) Hogan, Paul (Peggy) Hogan, Tom Hogan, Patty Langford, Dana (Dawn) Hogan, Matt (Erin) Hogan, Diane (Rick) LaPole, and Glen (Deanna) Hogan. A loving woman whose door was always open, she was the surragate mother to many more. She is survived by her husband, sisters Betty Trayer and Mary Lynn Stadola, as well as an ever growing family of four stepchildren, 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday, March 8th.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice of Johnston.

Dear Arnie and family members,
While I convey my sincerest condolences to all of you for the temporary re-assignment for your beloved Patsy to Paradise please take heart. She is not far from you and in the best of care with many dear family members and friends alike. Now free from ailment and the constraints of aging she is in fact at her very best in all regards, just as the Savior has promised through His atonement. Be of good cheer one and all and count yourselves the blessed ones who knew her as well as all of you. Celebrate a life well lived and well rewarded to have such a wonderful family! With my sincere best wishes and may He send His Comforter to be with you all as you continue your sojourn upon this earth but yet awhile.
