Robert P. (Bob) Aiken passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 12:11 a.m. at Mercy Medical Center. Born on March 14, 1925 to Jenny Logan and Felix Paone. After a divorce, Jenny later married James A. Aiken who became a wonderful father and role model to Bob.

Bob’s love for people was as great as their love for him. Bob never met a stranger who did not become a friend. Bob graduated from Dowling High School, class of ’43. He worked for Solar Aircraft, Barnes Cleaners, and retired from Pulley Freight Line as a dispatcher. After retirement, a coffee club was formed and continues to this day on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Louise (Saus) Negrete-Aiken; his children, Trudy (Randy) McAvoy of Forks, WA, Romona (Pete) Aguilar of Des Moines and Michael (Tammy) Moylan of Des Moines; siblings, Fred (Dixie) Aiken of Ankeny and James L. (Shirley) Aiken of Des Moines; granddaughters, Natalie (Brian) Donovan of Kansas, Stephanie Russell of Forks, WA, Melissa Moylan of Des Moines and Michelle Moylan-Christy of Norwalk; his special grandson and granddaughter, Jon and Lisa Russell of Boone; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, especially Andrea (David) Dalrymple whom he helped raise and her son, Geoffrey, who was a constant in the home. And not to forget Mimi, his favorite little Bichon. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Bingham; his sons, Robert Ross and Michael; and his granddaughter, Desiree Moylan.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with funeral mass to begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2015, at Our Lady of the Americas Visitation Catholic Church, 1271 E 9th St., Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ARL or Our Lady of the Americas in memory of Bob.
