Janet Sue (Gillum) Schwartz was born November 13, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Loraine and Frances (Kennedy) Gillum. She was a hairdresser and was employed by Pepsi. She adored her grandchildren and loved any activity on the water. Janet passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 60.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Janet is survived by her husband Kevin Schwartz, children Michael Leo (Jaime), Christine Minks (Michael Benson), Joshua Schwartz (Dena) and Brandon Leo (Janae) and eleven grandchildren Peyton, Austin, Jake, Grace, Megan, Madelyn, Samuel, Corbin, Bentley, Mylie and Cashlyn. She is also survived by her siblings Gary Gillum (Debbie), Charlie Gillum, Kenny Horner (Carla), Judy Yule (Tom) and Julie McLaughlin (Jeff).
She was preceded in death by her father Loraine, step-father Vernon Horner, mother Frances Horner, and cousin Glenda Ryan.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association in Janet’s name.

Kevin, I was so sorry to learn of your wife's passing from Dana this evening. I am sure she has always been a wonderful friend to share your life with and you and your families have many great memories to share and laugh over and cry over even. May God keep you and yours in His hands. Some day I will have to share a few memories of you growing up.

My siblings and I had lots of good times with the Gillums when we were kids. My Dad and Janet's Mom were cousins. I had a wonderful visit with Janet a couple of summer's ago at the Jackson Reunion. I wish I had been better at staying in touch. Hold on to all those wonderful memories. You are all in my prayers and may God bless you in the days ahead.

While I wasn't at Pepsi Urbandale long, Jan made you feel welcome from day one. She always had a smile on her face, and passed it on to everyone she met. She made the world a better place.

I was sad to hear of Janet's passing, she had a laugh that made everyone laugh. Her family was her pride and joy, we use to run into each other at walmart in Altoona and talk and catch up on each others family. She will be missed.

To Janet's family - I am heartsick to hear of Janet's passing. She was always so kind and such a fun person who adored her family. Janet worked tirelessly with me in the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce in the late '80's and early 90's. She cared about this community where she owned her business and raised her boys. Janet was a wonderful person. She was always so kind and fun. She would talk about the good ol' days at Pepsi when the company cared about their employees and the wonderful treatment, awards and parties they would put on for their employees. Janet would also talk about her grandchildren especially having a girl day out with lunch and buying clothes for the girls and then a fashion show at home.
God bless Janet and her family. You have a very special angel in heaven.
