Virginia Ann (Ginny) Boothroy, 92, passed away on April 22, 2015. A longtime resident of Altoona, IA, she resided the last three years at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, IA.

Virginia was born on October 28, 1922 to Howard and Mary Wilson in Colfax, IA. She was the second of five children in a close-knit family. She attended school in Colfax, graduating in 1940. On June 25, 1944 she married the love of her life, William (Bill) Thomas Boothroy. Together they raised their two sons, Douglas and Dennis, in Mitchellville and Altoona, IA. Virginia taught country school for two years, worked as a Northwestern Bell Telephone operator for one year, and then was a Claim Clerk Supervisor for 29 years at EMC Insurance Co. After retirement in 1985, she and Bill spent 19 winters in McAllen TX, where they made many friends and happy memories.

Ginny was a long time member of Altoona Christian Church and was active in Eastern Star. She and Bill loved to go dancing and play cards. They were members of several bridge groups and enjoyed lively family card games of Pitch. Ginny was a vivacious, outgoing person who always wore a smile and the latest in fashion. Her unreserved personality enlarged her circle of friends wherever she went.

Ginny loved her family, being a homemaker and cooking. She was a master baker who lavished her family with elaborate holiday meals, delicious birthday cakes, unmatched pies and her signature sweet bread, Potica. Ginny created many cherished family memories around the dinner table.

Virginia is survived by two sons, Douglas (Bonnie) of Iowa City, IA, and Dennis (Sue) of Parker, CO; four grandchildren, Kaila (John) Kenjar, David (Christine) Boothroy, Chandra Boothroy, and Christopher Boothroy; two great-grandchildren, Connor Hardy and Adela Boothroy; one sister, Agnes Agar; and several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Mary Wilson; her husband, William Boothroy; two sisters, Velma Fraker and Ruth Simbro; and one brother, Donald Wilson.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center for the loving care they gave Ginny during her stay.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Altoona Christian Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mitchellville Cemetery.
