Service Details

Jimmy Berdell Bixler passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 with his loving family beside him at Lutheran Hospital. Jimmy was born on September 4, 1934 in Osceola, Iowa to Rhoda (Mason) and John Bixler.

Jimmy was a 1953 graduate of Lincoln High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. On January 12, 1957 he married Lillie Ann Allen and this past January they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Together they raised 4 sons. When they were young, Jimmy coached their Little League teams and when they reached high school he was a staunch supporter of Lincoln High School Athletics. He retired after 42 years of dedicated service from Iowa Power and Light, now called Mid- American. After retiring, he would meet the guys for coffee at the Dahl’s on Fleur. He also enjoyed to golf and play the slots at Prairie Meadows. He was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan enthusiast. Most of all he loved time with his family – especially his grandkids.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lil; his sons, Jim (Charlotte) of Indianola, Jeffrey (Kelly) of Adel, David (Jodee) of Irving, Texas and Douglas of Des Moines; grandchildren, Sara (Jeremy) King, Amy (Brandon) Rogalla, Jonathan (Vanessa) Bixler, Jordan (Adam) Spooner, Jennifer Stewart, Matt Redding, Melissa Redding, Kyle (Ashli) Conkel and Miranda Bixler; great-grandchildren, Abby, Lauren, Olivia, Wyatt, Walker, Cooper, Sydnie, Alec, Braxton and Kikue; his brother, Gerald (Julia) Bixler; his long-time friends, Norm & Marly Abbott; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Linda Bixler and Nettie Bell Nelson.

Memorial services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will start 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the McDonald House, Children & Families of Iowa or a charity of your choice in Jimmy’s Name.
