Katherine Burrage was born March 1, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Oscar Eugene Johnson, Sr. and Erna Mae Green. She was the third child of eleven.

Katherine was educated in Ottumwa and the Des Moines Public School systems where she attended Amos Junior High School.

During her early years Katherine earned the nick name from her father of ‘Kat’. Katherine declared her faith in Jesus Christ at Mt Olive Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa where she was baptized under the leadership of Pastor H. I. Fields.

Katherine was employed as a bus associate for the Des Moines Public Schools for thirty-two unforgettable years. She was the union representative for the Des Moines School bus association. Katherine lived a tremendous and full life for 76 years. She was a phenomenal cook, baker, and she loved shopping especially at Walmart. She loved children and having them around her made her the ultimate caregiver and authority on, whatever.

Katherine departed this side of heaven on Thursday May 21, 2015 at home. Preceding her were her beloved parents Oscar and Erna Mae and sisters Eunice Ridley, Alta Mae Johnson and brother Ernest Johnson.

Leaving to cherish her memories are her husband Jim Burrage. As a loving mother she also leaves behind to cherish her memories three sons, Kim Bell, Kevin Bell (Sharon), Darrick Durrage, two daughters Allisa Dock (Pat), Jessie Burrage and three step-children Jimmy Burrage, Lorie Henderson (Percy) and Michael Burrage.

She was also the loving grandmother/mother figure to Jalia Watson -Burrage, Eboni Bell, Niguel Bell, Kristin Bell, Karissa Bell, Chazarae Dock, C. Nicole Dock, Allen Burrage, Nate Watson, Darrick Burrage (DJ) Jr, Alexis Burrage, Brittany Burrage, Damien Burrage and fifty-seven additional grand and great grandchildren.

Also left to cherish her memories are her sisters Helen Johnson, Alfreda Buckner, Vera Johnson all of Des Moines, Lorraine Johnson of Minneapolis, her brother Oscar Johnson Jr of Des Moines, a stepbrother Earl Fleetwood and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
