Service Details

Sharon Kay Hubbard, 69, of West Des Moines, Iowa/Fort Myers, Florida died in Christ at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa on Wednesday, May 27th, 2015. Sharon was born on June 2nd, 1945 in Seymour, Indiana to Louis and Myrtle Dieckmeyer. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour when God gave her the gifts of faith, forgiveness, and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Sister to Doris (Paul) Hoene, Fred (Judy) Dieckmeyer, and Roger (Ellie) Dieckmeyer; daughter-in-law to Oren and Virginia Hubbard; sister-in-law to Lynn (Deborah) Hubbard; and cousin to Nancy (Ed) Trowbridge; Sharon’s family was always important to her. She also had many other cousins, nieces, and nephews as well.

Sharon married Roger R. Hubbard on July 9th, 1967. Roger and Sharon had two boys, Eric (Melinda) Hubbard and Brad (Lisa) Hubbard. They were blessed with seven grandchildren (Elise & Lauren; Riley, Aidan, Ethan, Addison & Nora).

Sharon received her Master’s Degree in Art Education from Indiana University teaching for several years before staying home to raise her children. Afterward, Sharon faithfully served the church alongside her husband teaching Sunday School, providing fellowship opportunities, working in administration, and singing in the choir. The list of congregations they served together include First Trinity Lutheran Church in Beatrice, Nebraska; Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Franklin, Indiana; and St. Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, Florida.

Sharon valued spending time with her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed living in and exploring Southwest Florida. Sharon could often be found in the pool socializing with friends at Sunshine Village, or on the beach enjoying the Gulf of Mexico and taking in the sunset at Sanibel/Captiva Island.

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice of Johnston for their compassion and care for Sharon at the end of her earthly life. A memorial service for Sharon to celebrate her eternal life in Christ will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale, Iowa on Saturday, May 30th, 2015 at 11am with Rev. Dr. Joe Meyer officiating. All are welcome to attend. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Mercy Hospice of Johnston.

It was often said of Sharon, “She was the kindest person I ever met.” That was so true. She had a special way of making the world a better place. Sharon was loving and loyal, passionate and patient, gracious and generous. We were so blessed to have had her in our lives. In the end, Sharon knew that in Christ “life is eternal, love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing, save the limit of our sight.”

Thank you Lord for Sharon Kay Hubbard!
