Shirley Slater, 79, passed away on May 27, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born December 18, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Franklin and Ida Powers.
Shirley was an administrative assistant at Metropolitan Life until her retirement. She was a member at Asbury United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her children, Randy (Tricia) Slater of Kansas City, KS and Becky (Wayne) Hoener of Waukee, IA; grandchildren, Katie Slater, Melissa Slater, Megan Slater, Emily Hoener, Molly Hoener, and Michael Hoener; brother, Jimmy Powers of TX; sister-in-law, Sue Powers of MD, and a host of other family and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Slater; brother, Ernie Powers; and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas.

Randy & Becky, I planned to come to the visitation on Fri, but I could not get off work. I was and am dissappointed, and I'm so sorry. I lost track of her after your Dad's death. I'm so sorry for your loss. They were both wonderful and best friends with Dick and me.

'I am one of Shirley s cousins and lived with her at the Burlington country Club when we were kids growing up. She was always helpful and friendly even at a young age .Sorry for your loss. One of her many cousins that will miss her.
