Maurice “Pete” Edward Sanford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 28, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Pete was born on August 19, 1941 to Vivian (Bailey) and Maurice Sanford in La Crosse, WI.

Pete served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Family was most important to him and he stayed very active in his children’s activities. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of Carpenter’s Local Chapter 106 and also of the NRA.

Those left behind to honor his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Cindy; children, Cory and Jody; grandchildren, Grant and Courtney; brothers-in-law, Mac Laster and Cliff Collins; nieces, Nicole (Chuck) Martinez, Collette (Jason) Duncan, Callie (Brian) Waller and Sherry Wilkerson; nephews, Cliff and Casey Collins; and other family and special friends. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sandy, Linda and Judy; brother, Richard; and his niece, Barb.

A Visitation of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines.
