Ralph Smith
July 23, 2015
Ralph Erwin Smith went to meet the Lord in the early hours of July 23, 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was surrounded by loving family and passed peacefully in hospice. Ralph will be remembered as a loving husband of 65 years to his wife, Phyllis Smith, wonderful father, and amazing grandfather. He served in the Army as a young man and is a veteran of the Korean War. After honorable discharge from the Army he went on to start a family, and traveled extensively both domestically and internationally, as he loved to do with them. Immediate and extended family members will remember the many weekends at the lake as well as the lessons in driving, pulling a trailer, and a vast array of important life skills. He was a business owner, truck driver for Iowa Packing House and Super Valu, and undisputed jack of all trades and master of many! He was active in the church and enjoyed many activities with his church family as well. He is survived by his children, Marty (Tami) Smith, Mary Suzanne (Donald) Kirchner, Craig Smith, and Kayla (Alan) Baldwin; grandchildren, Nicole Oswalt, Jarod Smith, Jodi Smith, Tara Steele, Nathan Smith, Isaac Smith, Hannah Smith, and Tyler Baldwin. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Carson Smith, Vivian Nalevanko, and Maysa Smith. Family services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you all donate to a local organization of your choice.
