Lucy "Luz" Garza, 96, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 24, 2015.

Lucy was born June 26, 1919 in Topeka, Kansas. On August 14, 1950, she married Guadalupe “Lupe” Garza. She had lived in the Des Moines area since 1951. Lucy retired in 1981 from Great Plains Bag Co. where she had worked over 15 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Lucy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lupe Garza; children, Dan (Carleen) Garza, Mary Lou Iroegbu and Marcy (Greg) Fox; grandchildren, Joseph Garza, Angela (Jason Terry) Garza, Krista (Jay Pederson) Garza, Andrea Garza and Andrew Lee; great-grandchildren, Blake, Jocelyn, T’Adre and Edwin; and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pastor Padilla and Jesus Ramirez; daughter, Anita; and grandson, Jesus.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015 with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
