Service Details

Francis Clare Churchill, 93, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 at his home in Altoona surrounded by his loving family.

Francis was born May 8, 1922 in Mitchellville, Iowa to Roy and Nelle (Main) Churchill. He married Millicent on August 19, 1944. They lived on their acreage in Altoona for 63 years, turning what was simply a property into a thriving family home filled with love.
Francis and Millicent’s legacy of love and support of family carried down through the generations. Millicent passed away in February of 2015, and for the following 6 months until Francis’s passing, he was cared for by a team of family, friends, neighbors, and special Wesley Home Health Aides, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. This care team was able to fulfill Francis’s wish to die at home. He was able to pass peacefully surrounded by their comfort and love.

Francis will be remembered as a hardworking man. He was employed by Great Lakes Pipeline Company as a rackman for many years. Everybody loved Francis. He was the type of person who people wanted to get to know. All of his family agrees – you could not ask for a better father or grandfather. Francis enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved horses and mowing his lawn. “If it was green, he mowed it!”

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Millicent, on February 10, 2015. He was also preceded by his parents, 1 sister, and 4 brothers. He is survived by his sons, Alan (Jan) Churchill of Longmont, CO and Curt (Char Gustafson) Churchill of Pleasant Hill, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, 1 niece, 2 great-nieces, and 1 great-nephew.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW, Altoona on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Family will begin greeting friends at 5:00 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 7:00 p.m.
