Gary Heacock, 79, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015. He was born December 9, 1935 to Chester and Earlyn Heacock.
Gary was an active member of Altoona Regular Baptist Church and Grandview Park Baptist Church. He loved collecting trains of all sizes and models throughout the years. Gary always took pride in maintaining his home and enjoyed mowing the lawn and fulfilling household chores.
He is survived by his daughter, MaryAnn (Alan) Smith; step-son, Rodney (Brenda) Deal; 2 grandchildren, Curtis (Amanda) Jackson and Jody (William) Tunberg; step-sister, Winnie (Ted) Johnson; and numerous cousins and extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and half-brother, Kenneth Heacock.
Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 29th at the funeral home with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

I was sorry to learn of Gary's passing. I worked closely with him at EMC. He was a terrific person. I didn't know him outside of work, but he was very good at his job and seemed to enjoy it.

Gary's passing brings us grief and sadness but it is temporary. Jesus is Gary's Savior so we will share a permanent joyful reunion in eternity. Gary's favorite bible verse is: Ro 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
