Bill and his parents adopted our family as soon as they came to Des Moines in 1951. It was always hard to explain the relationship - easier to simply say "we're related" instead of the "x cousin so many times removed". He stood in as a proxy godfather to one of us when an uncle couldn't make it to Des Moines. He was always a wonderful man. We'll miss him too.
