Edward "Eddy" Witmer

Edward Witmer, 77, passed away on September 2, 2015, at his home in Grimes, Iowa. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 2, 1938, to Edward and Virginia Witmer.

Eddy worked at King’s Auto for many years and was always tinkering with things instead of buying new. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and in his retirement, he volunteered many hours at the Johnston Food Pantry.

Eddy was an outdoorsman at heart who had a passion for working in his yard, boating, fishing, and spending 46 years at the lake. He also enjoyed morning coffee with his friends, playing cards, riding around in the golf cart at the lake and sitting by the campfire. Above all else, he treasured the time spent with family and friends, and loved spoiling his grandchildren every chance he had.

Eddy is survived by his sons, Scott (Brenda) Witmer and Randy Witmer; grandchildren, Brittany and Christopher Witmer; sisters, Ruth Tish and Ellen Stonehocker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; parents and two brothers, Richard and Jimmy Witmer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Monday evening at the funeral home from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
