Betty Johnson

Betty S. Johnson of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away with her loving family beside her on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Hospice of Central Iowa in Des Moines. Betty Sue was born on February 17, 1947 in Keokuk, Iowa to Velma (McVeigh) and Charles Rhodes. She lived in SW Michigan for 45 years.

Betty was married to Rayburn Lee Johnson for 47 years. She spent her life caring for her family and making friends wherever she went.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband, Ray; her son, Steve [Jennifer (Higens)]; step-daughters, Brenda Reznicek and Cher Montalvo; step- granddaughter, Amanda; step-grandson, Jonathan; and step-great-granddaughter, Arie; sisters, Nellie Buntin, Dorothy Reeves, Esther McGee and Marieta Garrison; many nieces, nephews and other family and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Gertrude Rhodes; father, Charles Russell Rhodes; brothers, George, Gerald and Orien Rhodes; and sisters, Orabel Meisters and Mary Norton; and her beloved son, Norman Yocum, Jr. who passed away at the age of 26.

Visitation in Des Moines will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 7601 Fleur Drive.
