Nancy S. Polson
Altoona
Nancy S. Polson, 75, was born August 12, 1940, the daughter of Ruth A. Dyer of Altoona and Lloyd Polson. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
Nancy was born and raised in Des Moines and spent most of her life in the surrounding area. She was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1959, where she enjoyed being a Majorette. Nancy was named Miss Des Moines in the 1959 KSO Iowa Beauty Contest. She was and always will be a true beauty.
She married John Soutter in 1960 and had two children. They raised their family on the Eastside of Des Moines. Nancy was also a “California Girl” visiting her family in California all of her life. The Soutters spent many weekends at Rathbun Lake camping and boating as a family and taking vacations traveling across the country.
Nancy enjoyed doing puzzles, crocheting, playing solitaire, and laying in the sun soaking up the rays. She was known for her delicious peanut brittle and always made it during the holiday season. Nancy loved Elvis Presley, and was able to visit Graceland with her husband. She also enjoyed gospel music. Above all, Nancy treasured her family, grandchildren, and all her dogs.
Nancy is survived by her mother, Ruth A. Dyer; son, Mark Soutter (wife, Lola) and their son, Connor; daughter, Robin Borich (husband, Tony) and their children, Amy and Anthony (wife, Chelsea). She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd; half-sister, Linda; and husband, John.
According to Nancy’s wishes, private family services will be held and interment will take place at Masonic Cemetery.
Floral deliveries to the family may be made to Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines, IA 50309. Monetary contributions in loving memory of Nancy may also be directed to the family in care of Hamilton’s. Contributions will be given to Nancy’s dedicated caregivers.

Robin and Family: This has been quite a journey for everyone. I know my dear cousin Nancy is with her California family playing in the sun. Aunt Ruth, Uncle Lloyd, Linda, Carolyn Kay, your daddy and her are having such a good time being reunited. No pain just fun in the sun. I will miss our cousin GIRL-ONLY pizza nights without my Nancy, she made all of us laugh so that our faces hurt for hours after we went home. She said no TEARS---OK no sad ones--just happy ones for me, but still some tears--sorry I had to break that promise. Love you and miss you. I will never forget you cousin. You left us here so now you need to watch over all of us until we see you again. Love you more as always. Play in the sun and dance with Johnny forever.
