Sheri and Family, Sorry to hear about the passing of Elaine. She was always friendly and would ask how my mom, Maxine Cross, was doing. They had both been residents of the Catered Living Unit before it closed. They are both reunited in Heaven now.

Mrs. Cook was a treasure -- I first met her when we took my little sister, Barbara, to the Jewish Community Center on 8th and Forest [circa 1960] for classes. Her compassion and wonderful attitude of learning brings opportunities for all gave our family strength and confidence in those early years.
At Slinker and Ruby Van Meter Schools, Mrs. Cook continued to give students more enriching experiences. As an adult, Id take Barbara to weekly square dance classes given by Merlin and Elaine, and stay as a volunteer/chaperone. Of course Elaine volunteered me to learn square dancing, too, along with everyone else!
Blessings to this dedicated couple for their generous contributions to the community over so many years.
With prayers, Julie Simon
