Karla J. O'Brien

Karla O’Brien born February 3, 1952 passed away Thursday October 8, 2015 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines after a long struggle with multiple health issues.

Karla grew up in Correctionville, IA where she graduated high school. She would go on to attend the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Karla moved to Des Moines and faithfully worked various jobs at the Osteopathic School of Medicine, IUAP Treatment Center, Broadlawns Medical Center, Mainstream Living and 10 years for the State of Iowa. She loved her church where she sang in the choir. Karla was a member of both the Sweet Adeline’s, the Living History Farms, and Walnut Hills Choral Society.

She is survived by her loving son, Colin O'Brien; brother, Doug Keller; uncle, Roger (Karen) Vogt; partner, William Starling; and many cousins, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mona Keller of Correctionville, Iowa; husband and father of her son, Patrick O’Brien; special friend, Chip Foote; good friend, Vanessa Wright; and several aunts and uncles.

May she always be remembered for her caring and compassionate nature and lovable sense of humor.

Services will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove, Des Moines, IA 50311.
