James A. "Andy" Anderson

James A. “Andy” Anderson, 83, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015.

James was born September 1, 1932 in Des Moines to James and Marjorie (Ibsen) Anderson. He proudly served and retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service. James retired from AT&T in 1990, where he had worked as a technician for many years. Following retirement, he and his wife Mary retired to Arkansas, returning to Des Moines in 2008 to be closer to family. James enjoyed planes, trains and automobiles. He was a private pilot and had traveled the world. He also served as Vice President of CWA Local #7102. James was a member of the V.F.W., E.A.A., Pioneers of America and the Good Guys Car Club. He also loved going to the Iowa State Fair.

James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Anderson; children, James M. (Maria) Anderson, Julie (Joe) McKinney and Mary Michelle Anderson; grandchildren, Kayla Anderson, Jimmy (Stephanie) Anderson, Kassie Anderson, Tiffany Edgington, Joey McKinney, Hannah McKinney, Nichole (Clayton) Knight and Brittney Owens; great-grandchildren, Cailyn, Colyn, James, Gavin, Adeline, Raelee, Kinzley, Anthony and Dallas; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest with military honors at Glendale Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in loving memory of James or flowers may be sent to Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.
