David M. “Dave” Sickels

David Sickels of Des Moines, 60, died November 28, 2015 from an illness related to ALS. David was born 12/12/1954. He served in the Army (1972-1976), worked hard labor jobs, but LIVED and LOVED. Dave enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. He never missed a holiday parade, or going to the Iowa State Fair. Dave had a big smile and fun-filled attitude.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Jeni; her mother, Gloria; grandsons, David C. Sickels, Michael and Tyler Ash and Nick Stifel; brother, Walt Swenson; sister, Darcy (Ken) Culver; plus several nieces and nephews; special friend, Tonya Marvin-Clark; and his most loyal friend and brother from another mother, Mike “Max” Thill. Dave was predeceased by his mother, sister and beloved son, Donnie Stifel.
As Dave wished, cremation rites were accorded by Hamilton’s Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Public Television in loving memory of Dave.

Walt and Darcy, my deepest sympathy to you and the rest of your family. There hasnt been many days go by that i havent thought of dave and talk to jeni about the years of fun, love, hard work and heart ach we spent together and the love we shared for our kids and family. He was one of the best. He is now in peace and with family and friends, fishing and hunting with that big smile we all loved.

David was an amazing guy. I loved him and I want to express my sadness for family and remind everyone, he would want you to remember the life he lived and not the sadness of his passing. He will be missed greatly... He was a great friend, brother, father and uncle ect...
