Robert James Oldham, 77, was born September 27, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa to Herman and Hildreth (Wadle) Oldham. He passed away Monday, November 30, 2015 at Bright Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.

Robert lived in the Des Moines area his entire life. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High School. He served in the Navy for two years from 1957 – 1959 and an additional two years in the active reserves. He was employed as the folding line foreman at Tension Envelope for 40 years. Robert was a former member of Merry Mixers Square Dance Club and American Legion Post 374.

Robert was an avid hunter and loved spending time at his cabin in Clear Lake, Iowa. He called BINGO at the Legion Hall and enjoyed stock car racing and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Robert enjoyed going to Las Vegas and traveled to Vietnam with his wife, Chau. His Vietnamese family affectionately called him “King Bob”.

He is survived by his wife, Chau Thi; daughters, Rhonda Wagoner (Tim) and Linda Beatty (Dave); step-daughter, Phuong Le; sister, Vonnie; grandchildren, Amber Snethen (Tyler), Brandon, Kayleigh, and Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Tatum, Bayleigh, and Tucker.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Hildreth; brother, Richard; and granddaughter, Bailey.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3rd at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 4th, also at Hamilton’s, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
